Manie was appointed as Chief Director: Finance at Stellenbosch University in October 2007, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Prof Stan du Plessis.

He completed his articles with Coopers & Lybrand at the end of 1994 and was registered as a Chartered Accountant in January 1995. He is also registered as a Registered Auditor, with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors of South Africa.

Manie joined Stellenbosch University in 1995 as Deputy Director: Financial Management Information and has progressed through the ranks to now head up the full financial function of the University. Stellenbosch University has 33 656 students and 3600 academic and professional & administrative support staff, and a 2024 consolidated income budget of R7 194 million.
